Roundtable Update

This afternoon our class had our first roundtable update. This was an opportunity for each of our six groups to share what we have been doing so far this semester, and what we hope to get accomplished in the next few weeks. Our six groups include: social media, advocacy, event leaders, fundraising, speakers, and nonprofit liaison.

The social media group created a Foundation 313 Facebook page and is continuing to make more social media pages. They have expressed ideas about making an Instagram account, yet their main focus is the Facebook page. The group directed each class member to follow the page and continue to like posts they upload. This will allow more people to see all the great things Foundation 313 will be doing. The advocacy group created a press release detailing what our class has done so far. The group plans to send this release to a handful of local newspapers. This will help spread the word about all the interesting things our class is working on.

The event leaders group is in the process of contacting school faculty that can help with claiming a room to host the event on April 12th. The event team will have a hard time getting started without funds and without knowing more about the selected organization, yet they are looking forward to getting these logistics figured out. The fundraising team explained a variety of ideas they came up with. First, they are creating a GoFundMe page. Additionally, they are setting up two fundraisers at Pizza House (a local pizza restaurant on campus). They will be using the help of all class members to get the word out and generate the most funds possible.

The speakers group is working on getting more guest speakers to come into our class. They are also creating a set of questions for each guest speaker that we already have scheduled. These speakers include former Michigan Wolverine football player and NFL star Dhani Jones and representatives from a variety of the Detroit professional sports teams. Lastly, the nonprofit liaison team is working to compile the list of nonprofits that we want to send a Request for Proposal (RFP) to. After the list is made, this group will help send out the RFP’s and work to get in contact with as many nonprofits as possible.

It was nice to hear from the different groups, and I think we are off to a great start! This is all I have for now, but look out for the next posts regarding the RFP and different activities our class is doing!
